Joe Kirschten (joekir86@hotmail.com) reached out to invite the MRC to the Scouting America's Fall Camporee. I'll be attending, but wanted to share with everyone for awareness. Details are below.
I am a district volunteer with Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts) and the coordinator for our upcoming Fall Camporee in Merritt Island December 6. We are expecting 100-150 attendees at the event. The theme for the event is “passport to adventure” with a focus on international awareness and cooperation. From 8-12, the scouts will be going around a sort of midway area learning about various topics and doing activities.
The scouts have a focus on raising environmental awareness and leading the participants into service and action to address environmental issues in our communities. Dr. Wilson suggested that MRC could present about mangrove conservation and restoration, with the scouts working on potting mangrove pods.
We are expecting 100-150 participants at the event, which she mentioned may exceed the number of pots and pods that can be processed, indicating maybe 50 as a reasonable number. That would work for us and it is possible we may be able to have a volunteer work on logistics with moving additional material to accommodate more pots and pods if that makes sense for you all. We will have staff on hand to help with set up, tear down, and logistics during the event and we are providing lunch to our guests in addition to refreshments during the morning.
